Braised Collard Greens

2 tablespoons unsalted butter 1/2 red onion , sliced thin 2 1/2 pounds hearty greens (kale, mustard, turnip, or collards), stemmed and chopped 1 cup low-sodium chicken broth 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper 2 tablespoons cider or Sherry vinegar
