The Farm

Millican Farms is owned and operated by Steve King and Tanya Miller. Steve and Tanya moved to the Brazos Valley in 2002, and began Millican Produce in 2003. After farming about 2 acres for two years, they built a 6000 square foot greenhouse and began growing the best tasting tomatoes in the Brazos Valley and selling them at the Brazos Valley Farmers’ Market, the local Kroger, Farm Patch and more recently Village Foods, as well as the best local restaurants which includes Village Cafe, Square One, Hullabaloo’s, and Maddens’ Caual Gourmet. On January 22, 2010, Milican Produce became “Millican Farms, LLC”. We think the name change is a better description of who we are, since we grow everything we sell.

We still specialize in tomatoes, but we have diversified to include not just beefsteak tomaotes, but also a variety of cherry, grape and plum tomatoes as well as a few heirlooms. We also grow seedless cucumbers and watermelon in the greenhouse, and will be growing a variety of greenhouse crops this coming winter to include lettuce, pepper, eggplant and cantaloupe.

We are also expanding our field operations. In 2009 we grew over 50,000 lbs. of old-fashoned watermelon including Charleston Grey, Allsweet and Black Diamond (some of which were over 70 lbs.!). We are growing a variety of lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, kohlrabi, turnips, collards, Swiss chard, beets, carrots, onions and potatoes. This summer we will be growing a wide variety of warm season crops and plan to have a big production of sweet corn. Our expansion will allow us to continue to produce a variety of crops but in quantities so that more people will have a chance to see what farm fresh really means.
